Baptism
Everyone is welcome to be baptised in their parish church – children and adults alike..
At baptism you make a decision to start your child on a life-long journey of faith as part of the local and worldwide Christian family. The church promises to welcome the child and to pray and support the family and godparents in that journey. The service takes place in church with the congregation, family and friends gathered.
Some parents might rather celebrate the gift of a child in an alternative way without – at this stage – the commitment that baptism involves. During a Thanksgiving service parents and families give thanks for the birth or adoption of a child and everyone prays for family life. A Thanksgiving Service is not a Baptism. There are no promises to make about the Christian faith. The child will be blessed and prayed for, and supporting friends will promise to assist the parents in bringing up their baby.
