A few words from the Vicar

The moment we trust God, accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour and are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are made a new creation. We do not morph into super humans or some sort of super Christian. But our old lives are buried with Jesus through h baptism into death; and then just as He was raised from the dead, so we are also raised into a new life in Him {Romans 6:4} and equipped for our lives in and through Christ by the Holy Spirit.  And yes, this is all this side of the human grave!

Blessings in Christ. Blessings through Christ. We worship a God of new creations which leads to new beginnings for us all. Not just once. But every time we rediscover God, recommit to God, re-surrender to God, step in line with God’s will once again. Or return to him or follow his lead once more.

Let us not look to the past. Or too far into the future. Let us seek Jesus Christ today, live for today, and step into the today he leads us in, which will, of course, become our tomorrow too.

 Shalom, Si

Pastoral Care team Our Pastoral Care team works away quietly in the background, and is always ready to support those in need. Support is just a phone call away – ring our team leader Daphne on 653212 and one of our members will respond.

In our prayers we pray for those who are ill: Jean Jeffries, Bev Webb, Sarah Forward,  Tulie Zsolnay, Mary Moore and Joan Chapman.  We pray for all who care for the sick and housebound, in hospital and at home, not forgetting those who are being looked after in nursing homes and residential care. We pray for those unknown to us who have no one else to pray for them: we do not know their names, but they are known and precious to God. We pray for those anxiously awaiting the results of hospital tests.

We pray for the families and friends of those who have died recently, remembering in particular Tony Tolcher. May they rest in Peace.

We rely on volunteers to support 120+ households every week. Tasks include admin, buying, collecting, packing and delivering. Email address is

Art Appreciation  The Diocese is running a series of ‘Art in Church’ talks on Wednesday evenings at    7 – 8.30pm in July in several churches across the Diocese. The first was at St. Peter’s, and the subject was our own Peter Window  being part of the Roper Etched Windows. The talk was given by Revd Dr Simon Taylor, Director of Mission & Ministry Support – Simon leads the Mission and Ministry Support Team. He ensures support for ongoing vocational discernment, Christian formation and ministerial development for all licensed ministers. One of his encouraging quotes was  ‘St Peter’s is a significant modern church with the most complete range of Frank and Nora Roper’s religious works in a variety of different materials’.

See the poster in the Narthex. Learn of other art in other churches:

17th July – Polyptych Painting at St. Mary’s, Lydiard Tregoze

24th July – Good Shepherd Sculpture at Cotham Parish Church, Bristol

31st July – Reredos at St. Stephen’s City, Bristol.

Church BBQ  Simon and Ann have generously agreed that this year’s Church BBQ can be held, weather permitting, in the vicarage garden on 28th July .  Once again, this will be our main fundraiser of the year with a raffle.  The price has been held at the same level as last year: Adults £12 and children £8.00.  If you would like to invite friends along that would be lovely, but the same entry price applies to all. If you are attending, please get your tickets from Gill Perkins (tel: 07787 513 697) or Lis Davies.  The sooner we know how many are coming, the sooner we can sort out the catering for the day, thereby reducing the stresses and strains on the organisers!

Word search.   How many words of four letters or more can you make from  REOPENING ? (ref:  St. Anne’s). Target is 20 words in 20 minutes.
